We're better together

The personal benefits of volunteering are huge and can range from helping you to meet new people, keeping you active while unemployed, helping you build up new areas of your C.V., giving you a good reference and much more besides.

"The heart of a volunteer is never measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others."
DeAnn Hollis

Canterbury & Herne Bay Volunteer Centre

Since 2007 the Canterbury & Herne Bay Volunteer Centre has been supporting, promoting and developing volunteering opportunities within the Canterbury District. As technology continues to evolve, people are looking for new ways to volunteer in a non-traditional way keeping up with the new technologies and trying to better time-manage their lives in this busy world. We consider it a privilege to be able to help, and we are stepping up by developing a Virtual Volunteering project to enable everyone to find the volunteering roles that fit in with their lives.

wHAT WE DO

We aim to support, promote and develop volunteering opportunities within the Canterbury District. If you are a local charity, a voluntary or community group or not for profit organization, a Public Sector organization or Private Sector organization, and are seeking volunteers.

fall in love with our SERVICES

Referral and Support of Volunteers

One of the core functions of any Volunteer Centre or Bureau is the referral of volunteers. On average, we deal with approximately 1000 volunteers per year. Our aim is to match up the skills of volunteers with the volunteering opportunities offered by organizations.

Befriending

Currently, we operate a small face to face befriending service matching individuals who are isolated or lonely with volunteers who provide social contact and support on a regular basis. We also operate a telephone befriending service.

Virtual Volunteering

We aim to work with a number of organizations to explore and co-produce resources to support and increase the development of virtual volunteering opportunities across the District.

Social Transport

This scheme is aimed at the provision of a low-cost service utilizing volunteer drivers (who use their own car to transport people to and from medical and social appointments.

Training

We run regular workshops and training session for both volunteers and organizations that utilize volunteers.

Canterbury and Herne Bay Volunteer Centre is a non-profit organisation and to keep afloat during this time of crisis, we need your help.

Donate through Give as you Live Donate

Although we have ceased some of our current operations, we continue working on finding volunteers for organisations and places for volunteers, either traditional and virtual volunteers. There are lots of people seeking volunteering at the moment so now’s the chance to recruit people who are willing, able and will almost certainly be around post lockdown.
